Obituary

Yoshiko Azama Duke, age 86, passed away November 11, 2019, at Essentia St. Mary"s Medical Center in Duluth, MN with her family by her side.

Yoshiko Azama was born on August 20, 1933, in Osaka, Japan, the middle daughter of seven children.

She met Ed Duke, a US navy man, stationed in Yokosuka, Japan and they were married on April 4, 1956. She moved with "Eddie" to the Midwest and they lived in Brookings, SD; Minneapolis, MN; Michigan, ND and Lakota, ND. In 1967 they settled in Thief River Falls, MN where they raised their three daughters: Lori, Sheila and Linda. In 2009, they moved to Grand Rapids where they spent their retirement years.

Yoshiko was a creative woman who enjoyed many handcrafts and was an accomplished seamstress. She was often in the kitchen creating various dishes for her family and friends. Yoshiko loved opera and classical music. She was also an avid bridge player and overall whiz at cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings and a grandson.

She is survived by her devoted husband of over 63 years, Ed Duke and their three daughters: Lori (Ron) Fischer of Grand Rapids, Sheila (Troy) Klevgard of Casselton, ND, and Linda (Stuart) Farm of Grafton, ND.; 8 Grandchildren; 6 Great grandchildren.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019 with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Grand Rapids United Methodist Church, 1701 SE 5th Ave. Pastor James Crecelius officiating.
