Willow Sundahl King, age 96, of Grand Rapids, MN. Willow Sundahl King, age 96, of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on September 9, 2009 in her home at River Grand Apartments. She was born on July 13, 1913 in Havre, Montana to Andrew and Rose Anna Sundahl. She was the last survivor of Frank King Sr.'s children and their spouses. Willow grew up in Montana and graduated from Havre High School in 1931. She attended the University of Minnesota where she received her Bachelor of Science in nursing and was certified as a public health nurse in 1936. Later that same year she became the Itasca County Public Health Nurse based in Bigfork where she met her husband of more than 60 years, William G King. Bill and Willow were married on May 7, 1938 and spent the rest of their lives in Grand Rapids where they raised their two daughters and were active members of the community. Willow belonged to Christ Episcopal Church serving in the alder altar guild until well into her 90s. In her younger years, Willow was a Girl Scout and Campfire Girls' leader and also served as the chairman of the Grand Rapids Campfire Girls. She loved theatre and dancing and participated in many Showboat performances. An ardent golfer for more than 75 years, Willow was the Pokegama Golf Club Women's Champion in 1947 and 1956. Throughout her life, Willow enjoyed fun, cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, playing cards, traveling, fishing and spending time with friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill King in 1999. Willow is survived by daughters Janice King Munzberg (David) of Adelaide, South Australia and Katherine Helen Sedore of Grand Rapids; grandchildren James V. Casey III (Cynthia Wadsworth) of Minneapolis,; Kyla Merrill Casey of Adelaide, South Australia, ; Willow Sedore Loney (Steven) of Grand Rapids,; William King Sedore (Anne) of Chicago, Ill; great grandchildren Sylvie Ann Botuch of Adelaide, South Australia,; Joseph William Loney and Sawyer Oryen Loney of Grand Rapids,; and Adelaide Grace Sedore of Chicago, Ill; and her sister Lois Sundahl Holt of Tallulah, Louisiana. Memorials are preferred to Itasca Hospice, Christ Episcopal Church or Itasca Community College Foundation. Visitation is from 3 until the 4 p.m. funeral on Monday, September 14 in the Christ Episcopal Church, Grand Rapids. Interment will be at Itasca Calvary Cemetery.
