Violet Doyle Carlson, 98, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Dec.12, 2019.
Violet was born on June 5, 1921, in Turtle River, Minnesota to Samuel and Mabel Platt. She grew up in the Turtle River area and received her early education there. She graduated from Bemidji High School with the class of 1938. After high school she attended North Central Bible College in Minneapolis. During the War effort, she was a "Rosie the Riveter," working as a welder in the shipyards of California. She married Harold Doyle on Dec 2, 1943. After Harold returned from the War, they made their home in rural Solway, Minnesota. They moved to Pengilly in 1952 and then to rural Nashwauk in 1958 where they raised their six children. When Harold died in 1989, Violet moved into Nashwauk. She married Myron Carlson in 1999. Violet and Myron lived in Nashwauk until 2012, when they moved to Grand Rapids. Myron died in 2016. At the time of her death, she was living in River Grand Assisted Living, Grand Rapids.
Violet loved to travel and was able to visit Ireland, England, Scotland, Greece, and Israel. She also traveled to many places in the US including Hawaii and Alaska. Myron and Violet spent many winters together in South Texas. She loved her Lord, her family, her many friends, which included everyone she ever met. She also loved to garden, especially flowers. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pengilly and when she moved to Grand Rapids attended Grace Bible Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 2 brothers, one daughter, Julie, 2 grandsons, Jon Metzer, and Aaron Kruger, and 1 granddaughter, Amber Schultz. She is survived by 5 children: Linda (Gerald) Metzer of Buffalo, Wyoming; Connie (John) Engesser of Grand Rapids; Pamela (Greg) Kruger of Sebring, Florida; Larry (Diane) Doyle, Captain Cook, Hawaii; and Timothy Doyle of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; nine grandchildren: Jennifer McMahan; Jodi Crago; Mark Engesser; Heidi Lee; Michael Engesser; Eric Engesser; Nadene Page; Janene Officer; Lacy Gonzales; and 30 great grandchildren.
Violet"s family would like to thank everyone at River Grand and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Violet in her last days.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00 A.M at Grace Bible Chapel, Grand Rapids, MN followed by the 11:00 A.M. Funeral Service at the church. Rev. Charles Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at the Nashwauk Cemetery, Nashwauk, MN.
