Sheila C. Taber-Baxandall, 83, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. She was born on August 22, 1935 in Bemidji, Minnesota to Glen and Lois McPhee. The family moved to Tucson, Arizona her senior year of high school where she graduated and soon thereafter met her future husband, Raymond Taber. Ray and Sheila were married in Waterloo, Iowa in December of 1953. Together they built a fine life, living many years in Cass Lake, Minnesota and raising three children. Sheila remained in Cass Lake after Ray's death in 1987, working as a head cook at Cass Lake Elementary School. In November of 1993, she married F. William (Bill) Baxandall residing in Juneau, Alaska. Bill and Sheila shared great adventures and traveled extensively, the highlight being a trip to Russia. Moving to Hancock, Michigan in 2005, they were active supporters of Michigan Tech University where Bill was an Adjunct Professor. After Bill's passing in 2014, Sheila made Grand Rapids her home. Although Sheila was involved with various organizations and work throughout her life, family was most important to her. A woman of humility and gentle strength, she met all of life's challenges with grace and good humor. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray Taber, sister, Jean Crosby and husband, Bill Baxandall. Survived by her children; Deb (Jeff) Andrie of Grand Rapids, MN, Tim (Joyce) Taber of Lynnwood, WA, Eric (Janis) Taber of Peoria, AZ, husband Bill's children; Matt Baxandall of Ketchum, ID and Carrie Hulse of Salem, OR; sister, Sharon Fremming of Salem OR; seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and five nieces/nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the kind, compassionate care Sheila received at Majestic Pines and most recently at Oak Hill Assisted Living along with the doctors, nurses and CNAs at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.
