Obituary

Samuel A. Stephens, 84, of Calumet, was in Largo Medical Center in Largo, Florida when he went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009. Samuel A. Stephens, 84, of Calumet, was in Largo Medical Center in Largo, Florida when he went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009. He was born in Morris, Minnesota to Loren and Arvilla Stephens. He married Mary Lou on June 25, 1949. They raised their family in Calumet. Sam was honorably discharged from the Minnesota National Guard on Nov. 1, 1950. During his life Sam lived in Morris, Goodland, Marble, and Calumet. He retired from Butler Taconite mine in 1987 after 35 years of service. He enjoyed his faith in God, his family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, shoveling snow, mowing lawns, and picking fruit off his trees at his second home in Florida. During his last days Sam enjoyed serving the Lord and spending time with his wife of 60 years, all of his children and their families. Sam came to know the Lord personally on March 4, 2009. He was truly blessed and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, Logan Ray Stephens, a sister, Darlene Stephens, and a brother, Robert Stephens. Surviving family includes his wife, Mary Lou of Calumet; nine children, James (Andrea) Stephens of LaPrairie, Gerald (Dana) Stephens of New Prague, MN, Peggy (Dave) Prestidge of Grand Rapids, Randy Stephens of Minneapolis, Ron (Mary) Stephens of Tracy, MN, Jeff Stephens of Marble, MN, Mark (Roseanne) Stephens of Montgomery, MN, Michael (Terry) Stephens of Nashwauk, and Pam (Milton) Dvorak of New Prague; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Val (William) Gausman of Las Vegas, and Carol Grotjohn of Breckenridge, MN;and two brothers, Donald (Karen) Stephens of Morris, and Richard Stephens of Morris. Visitation is 4-7p.m. Monday December 21 in the Libbey Funeral Home and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday December 22 in the First Baptist Church of Hibbing.
