Russell Earl Sexton, 67, of Cohasset passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born November 10, 1949 in Butterfield, MN to Eldon and Eileen (Nelson) Sexton. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of 101st Airborne serving two tours in the Vietnam War before being shot and wounded in combat and honorably discharged. He was awarded many medals including the Purple Heart, Silver Star which is the 3rd highest personal declaration for valor in combat and he also received the Bronze Star which is for someone who distinguishes himself by heroic achievement or heroic service in a combat zone. Russell married Sherry Ann Beversdorf on October 23, 1971 in Carver, MN. He worked for Blandin Paper Company for 24 years and retired after 10 years with MN Power as a Supervising Shift Engineer. Russell's many hobbies defined him as a man who enjoyed all that the outdoors in Minnesota had to offer. He was widely revered as a man who could build or create anything with his hands. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Gretta Wyman; and a sister, Shirley Quast. Russell is survived by his wife, Sherry Ann Sexton; daughters, Lesley (Matthew) Wyman of Chaska, MN; Jennifer (Bryan) Welk of Remer, MN; Angela (Michael) Cowan of Deer River, MN; brothers, John (Marilyn) Sexton of Shakopee, MN; Thomas (Mary) Sexton of Cologne, MN; sisters, Sue (Steven) Born of Chaska, MN; Sharon Harrell of Royalton, MN; grandchildren, Jordan, Mason and Russell Wyman, Haley, Alynza and Calvin Welk, Jacey, Dawson and BreAnne Cowan; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 4th, 2017 at Andrews-Libbey Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5th, 2017 with a visitation one hour prior to the Service at Grace Baptist Church, 2452 Co Rd 76, Grand Rapids, MN 55744.
