Richard L. Rudquist, 77, of Bovey died unexpectedly on Monday October 25, 2010. Richard graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1950, then from ICC, and the University of Minnesota with a degree in Wildlife Management. He served in the Army 1954-1955 and was on the U.S. Army Rifle Team. Richard attended Macalester College 1956-1958 and earned a Masters Degree in Education. He also studied at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. He was married to Betty Vlasak on July 12, 1958. Richard taught in Robbinsdale for two years and in Grand Rapids Junior High School from 1960 to 1981. After retiring he moved to Dixon Lake. Richard and Betty traveled extensively and spent winters in Cayo Costa, Florida for many years. He played baritone in several community bands, enjoyed the outdoors, particularly canoeing and hunting, and liked parties and socializing. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister. Survivors include his wife, Betty; two children, Allan (Krista Matison) Rudquist of Grand Rapids and Anne (Joe) Manns of Maplewood, MN; grandchildren, Lilly, Eric, Sage, and Ingrid; a sister, Joyce (Howard) Norvold of Woodville, Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews.
