Richard Phillip "Dick" Roy, 83, of Grand Rapids, Minn., died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in his home surrounded by family. Richard was born in Racine, Wisconsin to Eli and Corine Roy. The family moved to Grand Rapids where Richard attended area schools. At age 14 Richard worked for Dave's Ace Hardware. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served two years in the Pacific during WWII. While on leave he met his future bride, Adeline Hilda Tweet. They were married in Bovey, MN on October 29, 1949 and made their home Grand Rapids. After serving in the Navy, Richard had various jobs before he began a 42 year career at Dairyland Electric. He retired in 1991. Richard and Adeline also owned and operated the family Christmas tree farm, Roy's Trees. He is preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Gunder and Hilda Tweet; brother, Roger Samuel Roy; and two sisters, Joyce (Elmer) Knudson and Jane (Elgin) Staley. Richard is survived by his bride of 63 years, Adeline; his children, Teri (Mike) Shannon of Grand Rapids, Linda (Scott) Herr of Texas, Kathy (Mark) Lutterman of Grand Rapids, Douglas (Mona) of Grand Rapids, Kevin (Tracey) of Cohasset, Addie (John) Ahonen of Grand Rapids; two sisters, Marilyn (Sis) Hakala and Marlys (Pat) Antilla; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. with the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 20, 2012 in the Libbey Funeral Home in Grand Rapids.
