Reino A. Kauppala, 91, of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Grand Itasca Hospital. He was born May 3, 1923 in Jacobson, MN to Emil and Jenni (Vaske) Kauppala. He married Eini Viinamki and after her passing, several years later, married Kathleen Duncan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eini Kauppala; 2nd wife, Kathleen Kauppala; parents; and brother, Rudolph Kauppala. Reino is survived by his daughter, Viola Ahrens of Jacobson, MN; son, Allan Kauppala of Jacobson, MN; step-children, Janet (Roger) Kooistra of Atlanta, GA, Robert (Dawn) Duncan of Fergus Falls, MN, Diane (John) Cedar of Andover, MN, Stephen (Barb) Duncan of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Gerald (Jill) Duncan of South New Wales, Australia, Nancy Helmbrecht of New Brighton, MN, Timothy (Nancy) Duncan of Long Island, NY; 2 grandchildren, Gabriel Ahrens of Maui, HI and Nicholas Ahrens of San Diego, CA; 13 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
