Phyllis Eloise Coleman, 87, of Proctor, Minn. formerly of Marble, Minn., died in Duluth on April 27, 2011. Phyllis was born at Montgomery, Penn. and graduated from Montgomery High School. She joined the Navy Waves and served during World War 2. She married Robert Keith Eller, who was also in the Navy, in 1945. They were married for 20 years and lived in Indiana, Bryces Prairie, Wisconsin; Galveston, Texas; Norfolk, Virginia; and Rhode Island. She then moved to Princeton, Minn. with her second husband Jim and eventually to Marble Minn. where they lived until Jim's death in 2009. She moved from her home in Marble to Railview Apartments in Proctor, where she was enjoying making friends, and playing bingo and scrabble. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim; son, Guy Eric Eller; and siblings, Pete Felix, Melvine Concannon, and Relda Felix. Surviving family includes three children, Mark A Eller, Appleton Maine, Gail Wyncie Matthews, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Kathy Jo Shopa, Proctor; grandchildren, Lorna Q. Matthews, Missoula, Mont, Justin Horn, Kalispell, Mont, Carmen Danielle Horn, Eagle, Colo., Brandon Keith Horn, Proctor, Eric Guy Eller, Greeley, Colo., Brian Keith Eller, Fort Collins, Colo.; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Noni Holland, Citrus, Fla. Phyllis was very loved by all her family for many reasons. Among them was her emotional strength, her sharp mind, her ability to give all of herself to not only her own family, but her neighbors as well. She was quite economical with her finances on the one hand and very generous when someone she cared for needed help. She was an ace cribbage and Scrabble player, regularly trouncing almost anyone she played. She had a competitive spirit and took winning very seriously. She had a love of antique collecting and started her collection long ago when most valuable pieces were considered junk. She loved to sew and had a project in the works right up to the end. She was an avid Twins fan, and anxiously waited for the season to begin, watching all the games with much enthusiasm and frustration, depending on how they were doing.. She had a love of cooking as well, and was busy making a pie even at the end when her breathing was difficult. She loved her "things" and took much pleasure in the arrangement of her new apartment, having the "kids" move things around until they were just right. We never went to see her without being offered plenty of good things to eat, most of it created from scratch on her new stove that she simply loved. One more amazing thing about our mom was her amazing recuperative powers, her ability to overcome the odds of her illness to take her life, and she fooled people by coming back from near death quite a few times, always saying that she really wasn't that sick, and what was the fuss about. Phyllis, Mom, Mom-Mom, auntie, will be missed dearly. There is now an empty spot where she once was that cannot be filled by anyone else. Love you so much Mom. We know you are with Guy and Jim now.
