Obituary

Oren Danson went home to his Lord and Savior on November 9, 2018. He was born in Blackberry Township on the home farm, to Elmer and Thelma Danson July 5, 1940. He graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1958 and attended Itasca Junior College on the top floor of Greenway High School. He moved to the Twin Cities and worked for many companies, finally as president of Horowitz, a mechanical contracting firm, notably working on the Mall of America build. Oren married Andrea Peterson on May 6, 1967, in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. He retired in January 1994 and moved back to Grand Rapids, building a home on Lake Pokegama. A devout racing enthusiast, Oren participated in drag racing, boat racing, and snowmobile racing. He excelled at building and overhauling motors; adding more horsepower to anything that needed a boost. Handy at all types of skills, he enjoyed woodworking the most. He became proficient in furniture building, carving, and turning, winning many awards for his work. Oren had a profound love for the outdoors which he shared with many. He especially enjoyed fishing with Jack at their favorite lake, and sawing lumber with Quentin. Oren and Andrea traveled all across the US and Canada in their RV. They also enjoyed world travel to places like Europe and Australia, taking a tour through Scandinavia to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Oren was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brothers Arnold, Melvin, Richard, and Wallace. He is survived by his wife Andrea of 51 years; his daughter Cindy Danson- Beal of Port Angeles, WA; sons Lee (Sue) of Spring Grove, IL, and Roger of Burnsville, MN; and former son-in-law John Beal; Grandchildren Jonathan D. Woods of NYC, Lindsay (Ryan) Bohlinger, Paige Lawrence, Anja Beal; Delaney, Kamren, and Owen Danson; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Horton of Grand Rapids, MN and Anita Danson of Weslaco, TX, and brother, Robert of Mission TX; along with many nieces and nephews. The service to celebrate Oren's life will be held on Monday, November 19, at 2pm, preceded by a gathering of family and friends at 1pm at Grace Bible Chapel, 2452 County Road 76, Grand Rapids, MN. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Oren may be made to Itasca Hospice Foundation. See online family guestbook at www.andrews-libbeyfh.com.
