Olga Edith (Peterson) Simonson, 93, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital. She was born August 26, 1923 in Holmes City, MN to Carl and Mamie (Heikkinen) Peterson. She married Sam Simonson on February 23, 1944 in Glenwood, MN. Olga was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed woodcarving, gardening, bingo at River Grand and fishing at their cabin on Elizabeth Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Simonson; parents; daughter, Doris Machones and brother, Richard Peterson. Olga is survived by her son, Robert (Toni) Simonson of Cohasset, MN; daughters, Joyce (William) Epple of Bovey, MN, Rosemarie (Duane) Boorman of Calumet, MN, Wanda (Larry) Birnbaum of Duluth, MN; sister-in-law, Betty Peterson of Alexandria, MN; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 gr-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church with a gathering of friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Paul Leslie officiating.
