Olanda F. (Gontero) Merhar, 101, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Grand Village, Grand Rapids, MN. She was born September 21, 1914 in Keewatin, MN to Angelo and Maria (Amprimo) Gontero. She graduated from Keewatin High School in 1933 and married John Merhar on April 28, 1937. Olanda was a fantastic housewife, having enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and was a great cook and baker. She played tennis in her younger years and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was preceded in death by her Husband, John Merhar in 1999; daughter, Patricia "Bunny" Sjogren in 1988; her parents; brothers, Adolfo, Liberato and Victor Gontero; sisters, Catherine Walker and Josephine Kapla. Olanda is survived by her children, John Merhar, Mitzi Zappala of Garland, TX, Joseph (Lorraine) Merhar of Nashwauk, MN, Judy (Al) Worrath of Grand Rapids, MN, June (Greg) Holmes of Santa Ana, CA; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
