Obituary

Nola L. Pierce, age 92, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Nola LaVonne Pierce was born September 7, 1932 in North Freedom, Wisconsin, daughter of Richard and Eva (Black) Hinz.  Nola attended school and graduated from Reedsburg High School in Reedsburg, Wisconsin.  On June 24, 1950, she was united in marriage to Roger O. Pierce in North Freedom Baptist Church in North Freedom, Wisconsin.  They lived and raised their family in Downers Grove, Illinois.  After her children were in school, Nola began working as a clerk in the paint department at the Kinco Ace Hardware store, retiring after 25 years of employment.  In 1990, Nola and Roger moved from Illinois, retiring to a home on Wabana Lake near Grand Rapids, Minnesota where she resided until her death.

Nola volunteered with the 4H Club for a number of years.  She taught Sunday School both in Illinois and Minnesota for most of her life.  She has been a member of Grace Bible Chapel since moving to Grand Rapids.  She kept busy with sewing and quilting projects, painting and fishing, and spending time with her family.  Her smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.

Nola leaves behind her five children, Henry (Sue) Pierce of Bloomington, MN, Richard (Marcilene) Pierce of Lemont, IL, Darla Lindberg of Dewey, AZ, Donna Pierce of Lindstrom, MN, and Paul Pierce of Grand Rapids, MN; nine grandchildren, Benjamin, Jeremy, Megan, Geoffrey, Emily, Scott, Sheri, Sheila, and James; 21 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger in 2016; her parents, Richard and Eva Hinz; and her brothers and sisters, Kermit, Wilbur, Chester, Alice, and Dawn.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Grace Bible Chapel, Grand Rapids, MN with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM before the funeral service. Interment will be held in the Wabana Cemetery, Wabana Township, Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Essentia Health Itasca Hospice, 115 – 10th Avenue NE, Deer River, MN 56636.
