Margaret Esther (Cheney) Niemi, 88, of Bovey, MN passed away Monday, March 7, 2016 surrounded by her family at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center. She was born July 2, 1927 in Deer River, MN to Harry and Stella Cheney. She graduated from Deer River High School and married Edwin Niemi on November 26, 1946. Margaret was a member of Grace Bible Chapel, the Women's Bible Study Group, Card Club, Birthday Club, Over 50 Club, and volunteered for over 25 years at Evergreen Terrace and Second Harvest Food Bank. She enjoyed feeding the birds, gardening, sewing and baking. Margaret was very devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Niemi in 1989; parents; sons, Steven Niemi in 2011 and infant son, Glen Niemi; brothers, Robert, Stanley, Oliver, Harry Jr., Theodore, Fred, and Phillip Cheney; and a sister, Virginia Tracy. Margaret is survived by her children, Dennis (Donna) Niemi of St. Cloud, MN, Patricia (Jeff Moore) Stewart of West St. Paul, MN, Debra (John) Tollgaard of Meadowlands, MN, Nancy (Martin) Hautala of Hibbing, MN; brother, Jay (Barb) Cheney of Rochester, MN; sisters, Janice (LeRoy) Riendeau of Grand Rapids, MN, Bonnie (Gordy) Snyder of Grand Rapids, MN, Marlon (Ron) Gibeau of Grand Rapids, MN, Beulah (Jim) McMahon of Warba, MN; daughter-in-law, Sonya Niemi of Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at Grace Bible Chapel, 2452 County Rd 76, Grand Rapids, MN 55744.
