Marcella "Marcie"
Bennett
d. Jan 3, 2026
Grand Rapids
Marcella T. Bennett, age 91 of Grand Rapids, MN died on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at Alternative Senior Living in Hibbing, MN where she had lived for several days.
Marcella "Marcie" was born February 8, 1934 in Waubun, Minnesota, the daughter of Anna (Bertek) and Carl A. Sauck. Marcie enjoyed several jobs throughout her life that became important to her – working at Hageman Grocery Store in Bovey and later, working as a caregiver for the Tomberlin family. She was always caring for others, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren as they grew up.
Marcie married Francis L Bennett on November 5, 1952. They made their home in the Lawrence Lake area. On June 29, 2012, Francis preceded her in death.
Marcie enjoyed playing weekly cards with friends. Sometimes, they would play Canasta, Kings, or Smear but whatever card game was played, sharing laughs and being together was most important. Marcie also loved watching the Minnesota Twins. She was a crafter! Quilting, knitting and other types of handiwork were some of her favorite pastimes. She was an excellent seamstress and could sew anything. In fact, she even created her daughter, Lori's wedding gown. Marcella was a member of the Bethel Trinity Lutheran Church in Bovey where she looked forward to Sunday worship and helping at the church as she could.
Marcie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Francis; step-sons, Poncho Bennett and Jimmy Bennett; brothers, Fred Sauck and Jim Sauck. She will be deeply missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Buford Saxhaug; grandchildren, Leanna (Gabe) Troumbly and TJ (Tara) Saxhaug. She is also survived by a half sister, Carol Jensen; a step-son, Richard (Joyce) Bennett; step-daughter-in-law Linda Bennett; step-grandchildren, Brett, Robbie, Nicole, Courtney, John, Stephanie, Katie, and Jourdan; numerous great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Friday, January 9, 2026 at Libbey Funeral Home in Grand Rapids. Then, a prayer service will begin at 2:00 PM lead by Pastor Susan VanNorman of Bethel Trinity. Interment will follow at the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine, MN.
