Leona Mae Hannula Jones, age 72, of Grand Rapids, MN. Leona Mae Hannula Jones, 72, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Bovey and Bemidji, died unexpectedly at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital on Saturday September 5, 2009. Leona was born in 1936 and grew up in Bovey. She graduated from Greenway High School and attended Itasca Community College. In her teens and early twenties she worked in her father's feed store, Bovey Mercantile Warehouse, and later at the Grand Rapids Clinic. In 1963 Leona married Glenn "Buck" Jones. They lived in New Brighton where Leona worked at Clark Pharmacy. In 1969 they moved back to northern Minnesota where she enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished seamstress and homemaker. She was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Irene Hannula; and is survived by her husband of 46 years, Buck Jones of Grand Rapids; a sister, Ruth Polovina, of Hermantown; as well as many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. A graveside ceremony for immediate family was held on September 8 at Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine followed by a memorial gathering of family and friends at the Timberlake Lodge.
