Obituary

Karen A. Suldahl, age 70 passed away at Grand Itasca Clinic nd hospital on Sunday, August 15, 2021 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Karen was born November 29, 1950 in St Francis Hospital in Crookston MN, to Alvin and Alyce Suldahl. She was raised on a farm in Climax, MN, and she graduated from Climax High School in 1968. Karen received a B.A., in 1972 and a B.S. in 1976 with a major in mathematics and secondary education, and a minor in psychology from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN.
Karen had Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I, since childhood which is caused by a mutated gene from each parent. This causes a slow progressive deterioration of the muscles.
She spent her life taking care of her elderly parents. She enjoyed doing counted cross stich, old fashioned embroidery, needlepoint, and latch hook. Karen spent a lifetime enjoying nature and was a member of Rydells National Wildlife Refuge. Through their many programs Karen learned about wildflowers and the prairie. She received money from Northwest Minnesota Arts Council and published her book, "Reflections of the Prairie." It is a book of poems and photographers. She had a love of cats and one cat "Muffy" even lived to be 22 years old.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Alyce Suldahl; her sisters, Marlene Burnett Hopewell and Elaine Eichhorst; and her nephew, Stephen Hopewell.
Karen is survived by her niece, Valeria (Ray) Uffman of Wayland, Michigan, and Pam (Joel) Bishop of Byron Center, Michigan: great- nieces: Sarah and Susan; great-nephew: Kyle; 2 great great nieces and 2 great great nephews.
