Josephine Ann(Burt) Crowe, age 89, of Grand Rapids, MN, passed away Saturday October 15, 2016 at the Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Grand Rapids. Josephine was born on July 18, 1927 to Joseph and Agnes Burt at the Burt homestead. She grew up in the Splithand area, attended Cowhorn and Wendigo country schools, and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1945. She moved to California after graduation, and while enroute from Southern California to San Francisco to start Nurse's Training, met a Naval Petty officer on the bus. Six weeks later, she and the Petty Officer, Elmo Bryant Crowe, were married. She also made a commitment to follow Jesus Christ at the marriage altar, and devoted the rest of her life to both Christ and family. Josephine and Elmo moved east to Minnesota, then to Elmo's hometown of Irvine, KY after Elmo left the Navy. After a short time there, they moved to Grand Rapids, where they spent most of the rest of their lives. Together they raised six children. Josephine was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was so proud of each and every one. Her love of singing and music started at a very young age. She sang on KOBY (KOZY) in 1948 with her younger sister, Bonnie. She wrote over 40 songs in her lifetime and performed at church services, weddings and nursing homes. Josephine was active in the Itasca County Republican Party, serving as a delegate to many conventions. She was also active in the Itasca County Historical Society, helping in various duties there over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, 9 brothers and sisters, her husband Elmo Bryant Crowe and oldest son Gary Bryant. Josephine is survived by sons; Robert Elmo (Dawn), Jody Allen (JoLynn), Farrell Lynn (Terri), Jonathan David (Eden), and daughter Lilah Jean. Grandchildren: Travis Robert (Anne Marie), Jared Allen, Heidi Ann (Robbie), Erin Frances (Kyle), Jessica Rae, Jace Michael, Edward Bradley (Dayle), Joseph Bryan (Bailey), Kyle Michael, Alyssa Belle, Katelyn Deborah, Valeri Cherie, and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Andrews- Libbey Funeral Home & Cremation Services and continuing 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at Grand Rapids Alliance Church, Friday October 21, at 11:00 am, with lunch following the service.
