John N. James, 88 years, of Grand Rapids MN passed away July 3, 2010 at Evergreen Terrace. John N. James, 88 years, of Grand Rapids MN passed away July 3, 2010 at Evergreen Terrace. He was born October 8, 1921 in Albany Ohio, to Cyrus M. and Lillie E. James. John married Dena M. Smith in Indiana July 2, 1942. Dena died April 15, 1997. He married Angeline Ketola on June 9, 2001. John served in the Army during WWII, worked for the postal service delivering mail, was the administrator at the Grand Rapids National Guard Armory for 21 years, and worked for H & R Block. He typed the obituaries from the Herald=Review into the Grand Rapids library database from the earliest recorded to 2008, and was also a volunteer teaching adult literacy. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Dena; a son, Robert Allen; and a brother, Alvern R. James. John is survived by his wife, Angeline Ketola; five children: Joan N. (David) Sommerfeld, Bloomer WI; John N. (Gloria) James, Lee's Summit MO; Pamela K. (Richard) Hester, Chandler AZ; Patricia (Bradley) Gustafson, Grand Rapids MN: and Richard T.(Gwendolyn) James, Omaha NE, thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday July 5 in the Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Funeral Service is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday July 6 in the Assembly of God Church in Grand Rapids.
