JoAnn Clara (Brenden) Barrett, 75, of Deer River, MN passed away Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center, Duluth, MN. She was born April 27, 1941 in Deer River, MN to Nels and Clara (Cleveland) Brenden. JoAnn graduated from Deer River High School and married Ronald Barrett on November 21, 1959 in Milaca, MN. She worked as a medical receptionist for many years at both the Deer River and Grand Rapids Clinics. JoAnn enjoyed flowers, going to the lake and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charlie and Norris Brenden; sisters, Joy Cox and Judy K. Brenden. JoAnn is survived by her husband, Ronald Barrett; daughters, Mitzi (Joel) Olson of Deer River, MN, Sheri (Les) Olson of Hibbing, MN, Vicki (Brian) Geving of Deer River, MN; brothers, Ernie (Joanne) Brendon of Spokane, WA, Nels (Diane) Brenden of Grand Rapids, MN, Milo (Jane) Brenden of Talmoon, MN; sisters, Ruth Dirks of Deer River, MN, Nora Scherf of Eveleth, MN, Ila Harthan of Grand Rapids, MN; six grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Olson, Ashley Olson, Dylan Olson, Braden Olson, Taylor (Derek) Geving, and Jace Geving; three great-grandchildren, Hailey Olson, Nikki Olson and Camden Gotchie; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
