Joan Mae Curtiss, age 83, of Grand Rapids MN passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Garden Court Chateau after a battle with cancer. She was born February 25, 1933 to Anton and Ethel Giehtbrock in Grand Rapids, MN . She graduated from Deer River High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Bert Arthur Curtiss on August 25, 1951. We remember Joan as loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was an avid volunteers for Elder Circle and RSVP for many years. She was featured as "Volunteer of the Year". Joan tirelessly crocheted and knitted afghans for all members of her family and many friends. She especially enjoyed crocheting and donating afghans for Habitat for Humanity housing recipients. Joan sang with the West Range Country Show in the 90's. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bert Curtiss in 1986, and brother Jimmy Giehtbrock in 1999. She is survived by sons, Larry (Lorraine) Curtiss of Grand Rapids, Mark (Marlys) Curtiss of Grand Rapids and Randy (Nancy) Curtiss of Fairbanks, Alaska; sister, Carol (Don) Godfrey of Deer River; 7 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial for Joan will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 AM at the Grand Rapids Evangelical Free Church in Grand Rapids. Pastor Ken Abramson officiating.
