Jessie E. Ericson, age 81, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly at Evergreen Terrace on Tuesday January 29, 2013. Jessie was born on August 24, 1931 to Emma and Jess Schroeder of Fairmont, Nebraska. Raised in the rural farmlands of Nebraska, she graduated from York, Nebraska High School at 16 and went to work at a York accounting firm. While in York she met Donald W. Ericson, a University of Nebraska engineering student whom she married on May 11, 1952. They moved to Ainsworth, Nebraska where Donald was a hydrologist for the U.S. Geological Survey and their son, John O. Ericson was born. In 1955 Donald was transferred to Madison, Wisconsin and they were blessed with a second son, Donald "Wes" Ericson. Jessie took care of her family, raising their boys, camping and teaching them to fish, while reading a book. In 1965 the family moved to Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Jessie and Don shared a love for the outdoors and knew they had found "home." With the boys in high school, Jessie returned to work at a local accounting firm, for nearly 20 years, and earned Licensed Public Accounting Certification. Upon retiring Jessie and Don pursued their shared dream of RVing and fishing. Travels included destinations from Alaska to Mexico, Hawaii to the Caribbean, and all places in between. They rarely traveled without their co-pilot, Dusty, an aptly named terrier mix. Jessie lived in Grand Rapids over 48 years and treasured the friendships forged over those years. She generously supported wildlife causes, enjoyed playing Bridge, and was always an avid reader. Favorite times were spent at the "cabin" with family and friends. Jessie was preceded in death by one brother, John; and two sisters, Esther and Ethale. She is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, John of Sitka, Alaska and Wesley of Grand Rapids; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her faithful canine companion, Dusty.
