James Raymond Olson, Sr. of Grand Rapids passed away Feb. 15, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. James Raymond Olson, Sr. of Grand Rapids passed away Feb. 15, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. Jim grew up in North Minneapolis, graduated from Minneapolis Vocational Technical Institute, took additional schooling at Dunwoody Institute, and became a Journeyman Wireman for IBEW Local 292 in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruthie A. Shepard in September, 1957. Jim started working as an electrician in Grand Rapids in 1974, and moved there with his family in 1976. He retired in 1998 after 43 years with IBEW Local 292. He loved camping, fishing, snowmobiling and hunting with family and friends. Jim was a soft-hearted giant of a man. He and his wit will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Corrine and Raymond Olson. Survivors include his loving wife, Ruthie of 52 years; daughters, Sheryl Amsler of Blaine, Debra Adams (Mark Kutz) of Grand Rapids, and Carrie (Kevin) Tinquist of Cohasset; son James (Lynn) Olson, Jr. of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Chandler, Katrina Amsler, Katie and Morgan Tinquist, and Tyler Olson; one sister, Carol (John) Pondelis of Brooklyn Center; and many nieces and nephews, wonderful friends and relatives. Visitation is from 12:00 until the 1:30 p.m. Funeral Service on Saturday February 20 in the Libbey Funeral Home. Rev Lynn Ronsberg will officiate. Burial: Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MN.
