Howard Edgar Smeby, 79, of Marcell, MN, passed away Friday August 26, 2016. He was born March 20, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN to Harold and Bessie (Sturges) Smeby. He graduated Robbinsdale High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1954. He attended Dunwoody and worked in the Sheetmetal Local #34. He owned several independent stations in 1970 and purchased the Reno Supper Club in 1974 and it became the Reno Inn with a full supper club and resort. Then in 1985 he bought a horse farm and married Penny Waggoner where they raised, bred and showed Arabian horses until 2002. Howard loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He also enjoyed woodworking and cheating at cards. Howard had a wild game sausage hobby that everyone enjoyed and played in numerous country bands. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold; and son Donald (Duck) Smeby. Howard is survived by his wife, Penny of 31 years; children, Bill (Patty), Laura (Stephen), Tim (Bobbi), Pauline, Angela (Jerry); step-sons, Shawn (Jen) and Brett (Jessica); several grand-children and great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 2:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24th, 2016 at the Marcell Family Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
