Hazel L. (Carlson) Butts, 92, of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015 in the Gold Pine Home, Bemidji, MN. She was born July 25, 1923 in Warba, MN to Swan and Margaret (Cameron) Carlson. She graduated from 9th grade at Warba School and graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1941. Hazel entered six months of nurses training at Moose Lake Sate Hospital and was employed at the Grand Rapids Hospital until entering employment during WWII at the F.B.I. and Washington Post Newspaper office in Washington D.C. Upon returning home for a visit she made it permanent by taking a job at the Itasca County Court House in the Treasurer Office for 32 years. Hazel married Homer Butts on September 4, 1954. Hazel and Homer took over the original home of the Carlson's in 1956 and Homer built his machine shop on the property. Hazel spent her years at this home from October 1946-January 2014. She then moved to GoldPine Home in Bemidji, MN from March 2014 to the present. Hazel enjoyed taking care of her home and spending time with her many friends and family. Hazel and Homer in their retirement years traveled in the southern states, always returning to Grand Rapids in the summer to be with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer in 1993; step-son, James Butts; step-daughter, Patsy (Butts) Stolt; parents; brother, Howard Carlson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Carlson; and nephew, Dale Carlson. Hazel is survived by her step-grandchildren, Annette (Scott) Berge and children of Albertville, MN, Tammy (Tory) Olsen and children of Forest City, IA, and Laurie of Anoka, MN; nephews, Dennis (Nancy) Carlson and family of Bemidji, MN, David (Priscilla) Carlson and family of Chesterfield, IL; Homer's nephews, Stanley (Shirley) Kuberka of Chisholm, MN, Larry (Cam) Kuberka of Sun City, AZ, Lowell (Jan) Kuberka of Hawaii and Ed Kuberka of Phoenix, AZ.
