Obituary

Gloria C. Keteri, a woman of boundless compassion and unwavering resilience, left us on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the age of 91, while residing at Garden Court Chateau Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, MN.

Born in 1932 to Alois and Adella Klein, Gloria entered the world just one month before the tumultuous stock market crash. Growing up amid the Great Depression in Chicago, IL, she faced adversity head-on, a testament to her ingenuity and determination. After graduating from Barrington High School, she worked as a telephone operator.

Gloria's life took a beautiful turn when she met and married Ralph "Kenny" Keteri, and they embarked on their journey of building a family. Their adventures led them to the Upper Peninsula in Ontonagon, Michigan where they completed their family of 6. During this time, Gloria's culinary talents were showcased as she worked as a cook.

In 1973, the Keteri family made their move to Grand Rapids, following Kenny's career with Inter-City Gas. Gloria worked at Kremers Ben Franklin, where she became known as the lady with silver hair. However, Gloria's most cherished role was that of a mom and grandma. Her nurturing spirit and unbridled love made her an exceptional homemaker and excellent cook. She filled her home with warmth and melody, often serenading her family while tending to household chores.

Gloria possessed a remarkable soprano voice, a gift recognized by none other than Frank Sinatra himself during a high school performance. Her "can-do" attitude and creativity allowed her to master a multitude of skills that she eagerly shared with others. Gloria was a talented amateur hairdresser, a skilled seamstress, an enthusiastic walker, a gifted artist, and an avid canner with a jelly cupboard bursting with homemade raspberry jelly picked from their own bushes.

Survived by her daughters, Crystal Ann Wilson of Bovey, MN, and Carol (John) Doolittle of Kailua-Kona, HI, as well as her sons, Kim Kenneth Keteri of Hubbel, MI, and Thomas Lee (Marissa) Keteri of St. Croix Falls, WI. She is also remembered by her ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her special friend, Wanda Siebert.

Gloria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph "Kenny" Keteri, in 1995; infant children, Victoria and Eric; her parents, Alois and Adella Klein; her great-grandchild, Aiden; and her siblings, LeRoy Thayer, Virginia Miller, Genevieve Schirmer, and Alois Klein, Jr..

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at a later date, with her final resting place at Harris Cemetery in Grand Rapids.
