Obituary

Gertrude Adler, 77, of Grand Rapids, Minn., passed away Sunday May 13, 2012, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital. Gertrude was born in Klein-Betschkerek, Romania. She immigrated with her family to New York City in 1950 where she met the love of her life (her herz) Klaus Adler. There, they married July 4, 1953, started their family and created many lifelong friendships. They moved to Grand Rapids, Minn. in 1968 where she continued her tradition of service by cooking in several restaurants, at church camps and for her friends and neighbors. Besides her three children, there were many others she opened her heart and home to through foster care. She was also a mother/grandmother figure to countless other people. A longtime member of the Assemblies of God church, her Christian faith was an inspiration and touched many lives. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Elisabeth, parents, John and Magdalena Rugel, brothers, Mike and John Rugel and sister, Anna Holst. Gertrude is survived by her beloved husband of almost 60 years, Klaus; children Anna (Bob) Johnson or Grand Rapids, Susan (Gerald) Flower of Minneapolis, Minn., and Tim (Annette) Adler of Grand Rapids; grandchildren Peter Flower, Emily (Mike) Flower, Meagan (Kevin) Asberry, Matt (Frannie) Johnson, Mike (Aleah) Adler, Josh Adler and Corrin (Eric) Mann; great-grandchildren Micheala, Davina, Jacob, Kaylynn, Mason, Petey, Leo, Shavon, Lukas and Calvin; sisters Lisa (Kenneth) Hessen of Flushing, NY and Elaine (John) Vanina of Katy, TX; her loving God-daughter, Dana Alvarado, God-son, Tony Rugel; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Memorials to: Assemblies of God Orphan Fund.
