Gerald "Sonny" Robert Schultz, 63, of Deer River, Minnesota, went peacefully to meet his Lord on September 16, 2013. Gerald was born on August 14, 1950 to Henry and Caroline Schultz in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He attended Greenway High School. He married Cheryl Sanderson on June 24, 1969. He joined the United States Army following high school and served in Greece and Italy in the missile department. Sonny went on to hold many occupations including in the fields of mining, truck driving, postal service, sales and management, as well as various positions with the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. Sonny also was an ordained minister and went on to pastor Apostolic Faith Ministry Church in Deer River. He received his Associates Degree in Business and Management in 1990 from Central Community College in Grand Island, NE. Sonny enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, football and classic cars. He was a lifelong guitar player and wrote two gospel songs. He was preceded in death by his mom and dad and two grandbabies. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, of 44 years; five children, Keith (Kendra) Schultz, Jeanne (Mark) Ryan, Travis (Amanda) Schultz, Merrilee (Rob) Warner, and Elisabeth (Nate) Kingbird; 13 grandchildren; five siblings, Andrea (Jeremiah) Price, Linda (Vel) Thoennes, Reta Skog, Patricia Schultz, and Tim (Melisa) Schultz, and many nieces and nephews.
