Gary Allen Vredenburg, 65, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015 in his home after an extended battle with cancer. He was born July 18, 1949 in Park Rapids, MN to Richard and Verona Vredenburg. He graduated from Backus High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Gary was a member of the Millwright Local #1348 (Virginia, MN) traveling to Colorado and Wyoming, then returning to Minnesota. He then worked for Potlatch as a Millwright for 22 years until his retirement. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking and spending time "up north" and at his cabin. He spoke fondly of the good times shared with friends and family and his two amazing granddaughters, Alexa and Natalie, the joys of his life. Gary was dearly loved and will be sadly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gary is survived by his wife, Elaine (Caskey) Vredenburg of 42 years; son, Jess Allen (Jennifer) Vredenburg of Grand Rapids, MN; siblings, Dale (Naomi), Neil (Carol), Melody (Calvin) Tilbury all of Backus, MN, Shannon of Pequot Lakes, MN, Tammy (Paul) Gearey of Pine River, MN, Mary (Dan) Davis of Santa Rosa, CA, Wayne (Sherri) of Cohasset, MN, Tracy of Grand Rapids, MN; granddaughters, Alexa and Natalie; 16 nieces and nephews.
