Evelyn Marguerite Seeling was born September 9, 1920 to Fred and Anna Seeling in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She had three brothers, Dalton (Helen) Seeling, Gerald (Ruth) Seeling, and James (Sharon) Seeling. Evelyn attended the Arbo Elementary School, and was graduated from Grand Rapids Senior High School, Itasca Junior College, and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud Teacher's College. She taught 4th grade for most of her career first in Edna I. Murphy and Forest Lake Elementary Schools in Grand Rapids, Minnesota; as well as in Deer River, Minnesota Elementary School, Cohasset, Minnesota, Elementary School, and Ellsworth, Michigan, Elementary School, for a total teaching career of 42 years. Evelyn was married to John R. Morken in 1953 and they were happily married for 44 years until his death in 1997. She joined in John's pastoral ministry as Sunday School teacher and superintendent, and leader of various Bible studies and women's ministries until age 88. John and Evelyn lived and worked in Wabana Township near Grand Rapids, Minnesota, as well as Kelliher and Mora, Minnesota; Bucksport, Maine; Michigan cities of Kalamazoo, East Jordan, Boyne City, Mancelona, and Plainwell; and in their later years enjoyed vacation and retirement years in Zephyrhills, Florida. After John's death, Evelyn bought a mobile home and spent summers in Duluth, Minnesota until 2007. Evelyn lived for a time at Westbrook Manor, an assisted living facility, and later moved to Heartland nursing home, both in Zephyrhills, Florida. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Dalton and wife Helen, Gerald and wife Ruth, and James. She is survived by step-children, Tobi (Lon) Sterett, and Brad (Cheryl) Akre, sister-in-law Sharon Speaks Seeling, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Evelyn will be buried beside her husband in Itasca Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
