Elaine I. Miller, age 97, of Grand Rapids, MN died Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Grand Village surrounded by family.

Elaine was born in 1925 to Albert and Nellie Johnson in Webster, SD where she grew up and attended school. After her father's early passing from Tuberculosis, her mother and the family moved to the farm in Hill City. Elaine moved to the Twin Cities to be close to her sister, Fern, and started working. It was there that she met her future husband, Glen. They were united in marriage in 1947, moved to Grand Rapids, and then settled in Babbitt where Glen worked at the mines. After Glen's passing in 1996, Elaine stayed in Babbitt until 2006 when she moved to Grand Rapids to be closer to family.

Elaine was a dedicated wife and mother. She volunteered as a cub scout leader and was heavily involved in her church as a Sunday School leader, bingo helper, and VBS coordinator. She enjoyed quilting and traveling to visit family. Elaine did not shy away from new challenges, earning her GED and driver's license in her 60s and serving as the first woman board member at their church in Babbitt.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen; and 6 siblings, Bertha, Ernest, Cleone, Arthur, Olivia, and Alice.

She is survived by her sons, Glenn Miller, Duane (Anne) Miller; sister, Fern Johnson; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Salem Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, followed by the 11:00 AM memorial service. Rev. Ty Rostvedt officiating.
