Edith Lane, 98, lifetime resident of the Blackberry, Minn. area died after a brief illness on June 19, 2012 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids, Minn. Edith was born October 20, 1913 in a logging camp to Julius and Hannah Sandstrom. She grew up helping her parents on the family farm and attended school at Blackberry and Grand Rapids. She took nurses training in Hinsdale, Illinois where she met and married Bill Lane on June 26, 1937. When Bill went in the Army Edith moved back to Blackberry and lived with her parents until Bill was discharged from the Army in 1945. They made their home in Blackberry from then until the present. Edith worked with Bill on their dairy farm until their children were grown up. She then worked at Itasca Memorial Hospital as an RN until her retirement in1979. Over the years she was involved with the Blackberry 4-H club, the organ guild and was a lifelong member of the Blackberry Seventh-day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Hanna Sandstrom, her husband, William "Bill" and her sister Alvera Kritsky. She is survived by her children Philip (Janet) Lane of Burnsville, Minn, Douglas (Sula) Lane of Grand Rapids, and Karen (LeRoy) Panasuk of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
