Edith Almeda Jetland Fitzgerald, 104, of Grand Rapids, Minn. passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Evergreen Terrace. Visitation is from 1 until the 2 p.m. service on Sunday, September 11, 2011 in the Community Presbyterian Church. Edith Almeda Jetland Fitzgerald, age 104, of Grand Rapids, Minn. died Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Evergreen Terrace in Grand Rapids. Edith was born to Edward and Alpha Jetland in McIntosh, Minn. At the age of two, she moved with her family to Grand Rapids. Edith began working at the Itasca County Courthouse after graduating from GRHS. She was united in marriage to William "Fitz" Fitzgerald in 1945. Edith and Fitz owned and operated the Pokegama Hotel until they moved to International Falls and purchased the Rex Hotel. Their next move was to Kalispell, Montana where they owned and operated yet another motel. Edith and Fitz moved back to Grand Rapids in 1965 where she made her home until her death. During her 60 plus years of working in the Title and Abstract industry, she was proud of the fact she could claim she worked with three generations in the same business. Edith was a member of numerous organizations within the community and was proud to call Grand Rapids home. Edith was a lifetime member of Community Presbyterian Church. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, five brothers, Lloyd, Art, Don, Floyd and Harold. Two sisters, Arvilla Litchke and Hazel Tressler. She is survived by two brothers, Jerry (Jeanette) Jetland, Minneapolis, and John "Pinky" (Virginia) Jetland, Grand Rapids, and a sister in law, Kate Jetland of Sun City West, Ariz. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, grand, great-grand and great-great-grandnieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to Itasca Hospice or Community Presbyterian Church. Gracie, as she was known by family and friends, will be deeply missed and always remembered as the regal, elegantly dressed lady with the fiery red hair. At this time we say, "Good night, Gracie."
