Obituary

Donald Edward Almlie, 82, died Thursday February 7, 2013 at Grand Village Lodge in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Donald was born December 19, 1930 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the only child of Oscar and Clara Almlie. He was baptized and confirmed in Glendorado Lutheran Church, graduated from Foley High School, and, in June of 1953, married Betty Johnson. He owned and operated two sporting goods stores in Braham, Minnesota and later was caretaker of the Isanti County Fairgrounds. He moved to Grand Rapids in 2004, and went to Grand Village Lodge in 2012 where he also served as a resident volunteer. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bird watching, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Moose Club and the Sons of the American Legion. Don loved people and was extremely social. He will be remembered as a jokester and storyteller. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Jason Grell. He is survived by two daughters, Jean (Douglas) Esler of Grand Rapids and Karen (Robert) DuQuesnay of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Jolene (Steven) Wolff of Boyceville, Wisconsin, Kyle DuQuesnay, and Lauren DuQuesnay, both of Austin, Texas; "special granddaughters," Carrie and Amanda Fredlund of Mora, Minnesota; and many other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 12 in Glendorado Lutheran Church at Glendorado, Minnesota. Pastor Barb Peterson will officiate. Burial: Glendorado Lutheran Church Cemetery.
