Dan Rider Chilton, 94, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Pengilly, MN passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was born November 9, 1924 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Edward and Martha (Anundsen) Chilton. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. He is a United States WWII Army Veteran and after serving graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Mines. He married Margaret Stevens in 1948. They were married for 52 years. He worked for Hannah Mining Company for 35 years during which time he spent 3 years in Brazil. Dan was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pengilly, MN and a lifelong member of the VFW. He served as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 19 in Nashwauk and delivered Meals on Wheels in Pengilly for over 10 years. He enjoyed reading, traveling, hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping and hiking. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Stevens) Chilton; and sisters, Judy Adams and Nancy Huhtala Johnston.

Dan is survived by his children, Guy Chilton of Silverton, OR, Catherine (Jerome) Chilton-Werner of Fargo, ND; brother, Edward (Bari) Chilton of White Bear Lake, MN; three grandchildren, Hallie Chilton, Iris Chilton, and Adrienne Werner.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Pengilly United Methodist Church, 31870 Jefferson Blvd, Pengilly, MN 55775.
