Chaplain (Cpt.) Dale Allen Goetz, 43, was called home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 30, 2010 when he was killed in a roadside bomb blast in the Arghandab River Valley, Afghanistan. Dale had been in Afghanistan for less than a month. Four other Fort Carson (CO) soldiers were also killed in the same attack. Dale grew up in Hood River, OR where he was an athlete. His first job was at an old-fashioned dairy where he processed milk and sold ice cream at a drive up window. A year before graduating from high school, he prayed with his principal to receive Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He enlisted in the Air Force, then went on to Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, WI where he met his wife, Christy Moen. He completed his Master of Divinity at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Minneapolis in 2000. After graduation from seminary, he pastored a church in White, SD, but felt a call to minister to soldiers. He joined the Army and served at Ft. Lewis, WA, Okinawa, Japan, and then Fort Carson. This was Dale's second deployment; he also served an 11-month tour in Iraq. Dale is survived by his wife, Christy; and three sons, ages 10, 8 and 1 year; his mother, Hope Goetz; and sisters, Kim Sumner and Ann Senetar, all of Colorado; and grandmother, Myrtle White of Oregon. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Charles Moen of Grand Rapids, MN; mother-in-law, Carol Moen of Cohasset, MN; and brother-in-law, Chad Moen of Deer River, MN. Funeral services are planned in Colorado with burial in Denver. A trust fund has created to honor Dale's desire to equip Army chaplains with up to date and meaningful ministry materials.
