Carolyn Lutz, 84, Grand Rapids resident since 1988, passed away Friday April 11, 2014 at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, MN. Carolyn was born in Howard, S.D. in 1929 to Mabel and Olger Kvernes. She graduated as valedictorian of Howard High School. She earned a BA cum laude in Art from Augustana College in 1951 and married Hugo Lutz in the same year. She raised her three children near Upsala College in New Jersey, where Hugo taught art and where she studied biology. Carolyn was known in Grand Rapids as a painter, weaver, and a kind soul. She was proceeded in death by her husband Hugo, who passed away in 2008. Surviving family includes her brother; two of her three sisters, and her sons David of Goshen MA, Christopher of Santa Cruz CA, and Eric of St. Louis MO. No formal memorial services are planned.
