Bud E. Tervo, sadly passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2023, at the age of 92 at his home in Cohasset, MN.

Bud was born in Duluth, MN on July 2, 1931, to Jack Edward Tervo and Mabel Ward. He and his sister, Rita, were raised by their grandmother, Christina Bergland Ward in Cohasset until her death in 1940. Bud and Rita eventually ended up living in Grand Rapids, MN near Forest Lake. It was there that Bud met life-long friend, Dick Hughes. As a young teen, Bud was introduced to ski jumping and soon found the Coleraine ski hill as his new home away from home. He made many friends there including hall of fame ski jumper, Gene Wilson. Bud competed in U.S. national competitions as well.

Bud graduated from Grand Rapids High School and attended Itasca Junior College. In 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed at the 8th Army Stockade (formerly Sugamo prison) as military police outside of Tokyo, Japan. Bud made several lifelong friends while serving in Japan during the Korean War and would later make several trips back to Japan to visit. One of the highlights Bud talked about was his opportunity to "pairs skate" in the Tokyo Ice Show during his time there.

In 1955, Bud went to work for Western Airlines as a Customer Service Agent. He married Shirley Daynard from Coleraine in 1957 and moved to San Francisco in 1958. Bud and Shirley would have two children, Paul and Nancy, and raised their kids in San Carlos, CA. Bud enjoyed working for Western Airlines in San Francisco Airport and the opportunities it gave him and his family to travel. Bud was chosen to be in a television commercial for Western Airlines in 1980 that aired for a couple years.

Bud retired from Delta Airlines in 1993 and returned to Cohasset to fulfill his passion for boating, collecting antique outboard motors, and watching high school sports (Go Greenway!). As the years passed, he resided at his home that he called the "Shangri-la" with his beloved cats. He was a frequent customer at Country Kitchen and Forest Lake restaurants. Bud was blessed by wonderful neighbors and a community of friends that helped him out and kept an eye on him in his later years. All those wonderful people made it possible for Bud to live independently in his home until his unexpected death.

Bud was a kind, gentle, and gracious man. He liked to tell stories about his life and his experiences and connections with people. Bud was a loving father, always proud of his kids. He will be deeply missed.

Bud is survived by his son, Paul (Michelle) Tervo of North Carolina; daughter, Nancy Tervo (Mark Dallas) of San Carlos, CA; and three grandchildren, Kyle, Rachel, and Karlee.

Friends are welcome to attend a funeral service at Libbey Funeral Home, Grand Rapids, MN on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine, MN.
