Betty Lou Benson was ushered into the loving arms of Jesus on February 3, 2026.  Betty Lou was born on May 15, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois to Chris (Red) and Emma (Pat) Schromen.  She moved to Bigfork, MN in 1947 and graduated from Bigfork High School in 1956.

In 1955, she met the love of her life, William (Bill) Benson and they started dating during her senior year of high school.  In 1958, they both committed their lives to Jesus and accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.  They were married on May 23, 1959, and started a 66+ year journey of their life together.  They moved to Grand Rapids, MN where they raised four kids. Betty Lou's life verse was Joshua 24:15 - Choose this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Betty Lou was an active member of Grace Bible Chapel.  If you knew Betty Lou, you were blessed by her!  She taught Toddler Sunday school for 16 years, worked with Junior high youth group, Junior church, nursery, cradle roll for new babies, Sparks in Awana for many years, the Flower and Sunshine committee and organized the Caregivers program.  Betty Lou had a true servant's heart and was always caring for others.  She was a faithful prayer warrior and touched the lives of so many people from bringing food to sick and grieving people, visiting shut ins, greeting anyone new who attended church and giving quick smiles and big hugs to all.  She also had a beautiful singing voice and loved singing for church in the choir, on worship teams and with her kids.

Betty Lou's biggest joy was her grandchildren.  She was faithful to attend as many games, concerts and school events as she could.  She loved babysitting and loving on her grandkids and shared God's love with all of them.  She faithfully prayed for her kids and grandkids every day.

When they moved to River Grand Assisted Living in 2019, Betty Lou continued to bloom wherever she lived.  She loved crocheting, making crafts and visiting with neighbors.  She started a Women's daily bread devotional/bible study that met every afternoon.   She was loved by anyone working with her due to her gentle spirit and sassy, yet gracious way about her.  When she started working with hospice, she was soon loved by all of her hospice staff.

Betty Lou was preceded in death by her dear sister Cora Lee (Corky) Olson and her parents.  She was deeply loved by her family and is survived by her loving husband Bill, three sisters - JoAnn Bueckers, Bonnie Pederson and Linda (Gary) Dahl; children - Bill (Deann) Benson, Bob Benson, Sue Doell and Deb (Dave) Overlee.  She is also survived by nine grandkids - Brandon, Janelle, Lindsay (Adam), Patrick (Amanda), Bethany (Zach), Emma (Blake), Makenzi, Erik and Jake, ten great grand kids and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at Grace Bible Chapel, Grand Rapids, MN with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM at the church.  Rev. Charles Nelson will officiate.  Burial will be held at a later date at Wildwood Cemetery, Cohasset, MN.
