Obituary

Arvid A. Puttonen, 96, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota died January 6, 2013 in Grand Village. Arvid was born in Sebeka, Minnesota on January 8, 1916 to Nestor and Hilja Puttonen and grew up in Sebeka and Graceton, Minnesota. He moved to Toivola, Minnesota in about 1938 and was married to Edna Sorvari on October 16, 1940. Arvid worked in the CCC Camps and in the mines, but worked mostly as a logger and sawmill operator. He lived in Taconite Harbor for 11 years before moving to the Grand Rapids area in 1976. He has lived at Grand Village for the past six years. Arvid was an avid deer hunter and loved woodworking and spending time with his family. Arvid was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, in 2002; two daughters, Carol and Janice; one son, Dennis; two sisters and four brothers. Surviving family includes three sons, Allan (Polly) Puttonen of Lone Oak, Texas, Geary (Mary) Puttonen of Bovey, and Kenneth (Cindy) Puttonen of Grand Rapids; two daughters, Judy Bok and Joyce Puttonen, both of Grand Rapids; daughter-in-law, Arlene Puttonen Rabb of Yuma, Arizona; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Ann Puttonen of Tower, Minnesota and Arlene Laine of Iron, Minnesota.
