Arlo
Johnson
d. May 3, 2025
Arlo Ray Johnson, 89, of Grand Rapids, MN passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
Arlo Johnson was born in Jamestown, ND on May 25, 1935, to Oscar and Nora (Setter) Johnson. He grew up on the family farm in Spiritwood, ND, and graduated from Jamestown High School. He was married to his now-former wife, Marlee McDonald, the mother of his five children. He worked in the grocery business in Superior, Hibbing, and Fergus Falls, before moving his family to Grand Rapids in 1972 to manage Gordy's SuperValu. He loved people, and we couldn't go anywhere in town where he wouldn't know someone and stop to share a laugh and some memories. After moving to Grand Rapids, Arlo was a member of the Drift Skippers snowmobile club, as well as being an avid bowler. He was on many bowling teams over the years and enjoyed the camaraderie of his teammates. Arlo married Lynn Bemis in 1984, and they enjoyed traveling, especially their yearly trips to Mexico.
Arlo is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Nora Johnson; wife, Lynn Johnson; former wife, Marlee (McDonald) Johnson; two brothers who died at birth, Leslie and Vernon; brother, Duane Johnson; and grandson, Kevin Foix.
Arlo is survived by his brother, Norman Johnson of Galt CA; children, Linda Ross of Bovey, Lori Johnson of Nashwauk, Doug Johnson of Nashwauk, Doran Johnson of Federal Dam, and Becky Herskind (Paul) of Las Vegas; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends.
A family Celebration of Life and burial will be held this summer in Arlo's hometown of Spiritwood ND.
