Alfred "Shorty" Olson, 47, of Pengilly, Minn. died unexpectedly on January 14, 2012. Visitation is from 2:00 until the 3:00 p.m. Memorial Service on Friday, January 20, 2012 in the Grand Rapids Alliance Church. Alfred "Shorty" Olson, 47, of Pengilly, Minn. died unexpectedly on January 14, 2011. Shorty was born January 9, 1965 in Miles City, Montana to Alfred and Leslie Olson. He graduated from high school in Fairbanks, Alaska and served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. Following military service he moved to Grand Rapids. In 2003 he married his wife, Lorie. Shorty worked at many jobs, particularly as a truck driver and welder and was currently working as a welder at Midwest Manufacturing in Nashwauk, Minn. Shorty was always available to help anyone in need. He loved family, God, and country and enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting, and fishing. He was a life member of the D.A.V., a member of the 49ers, and an active member and past president of the local chapter of A.B.A.T.E. Shorty was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James. Survivors include his wife, Lorie; seven children, Shawna (Chris) Thoreson, Grand Rapids, Dawna Olson, Duluth, Minn., Hollyann Olson, Roseville, Minn., and Jonathan Olson, Jared Brohman, Joshua Brohman, and Hannah Brohman, all of Pengilly; two grandchildren, Zoe and Keelia; two brothers, Gary (Ann) Olson, Grand Rapids, and Dennis (Stephanie) Olson, Big Lake, Alaska; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
